Helen Parlor

Artistic Director

Helen has been working as a contemporary dancer, performer, choreographer and director for over 20 years. Completing her degree in vocational dance training at Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds; Helen has gone on to professionally work with Scott Ambler (AMP), Jonathon Lunn, Banksy, Yael Flexer, Jamie Watton, Motionhouse (productions Atomic, Fearless, Volatile and Perfect) and Panta Rei Danseteater in Norway, Tanzania and Sweden.


Helen’s choreographic credits include creating the Paralympic Opening Ceremony London 2012 alongside Kevin Finnan and national and international tours of her own work ‘Close Distance’ through her company Parlor Dance. Helen is regularly commissioned to create work to tour and most recently with MAPdance to create the work Propel for their last international programme. As a movement director Helen regularly collaborates with theatre directors and most recently with Forest Forge on the production ‘Hidden’ and currently with Something Underground on ‘Of Our Own Making’, integrating movement for issue based work for professional tour.


Helen makes work across the UK and supports young artists at various stages of their career through various training and support programmes.Helen regularly mentors other artists in various stages of their career and works internationally as a rehearsal director, choreographer, facilitator and recently as curator for the ROCLA art project in Milton Keynes:
