ADJUSTMENTS

Supporting the Next Generation of Choreographic Talent

Adjustments is a professional development programme created by MÓTUS to champion early-career dance artists and choreographers across Milton Keynes and the surrounding regions. The programme offers emerging creatives the space, skills and support they need to take the next step in their artistic journey.

Running from April to May 2026, Adjustments brings together mentoring, professional development, creative opportunities and a platform to share work publicly.

The programme culminates in a performance at centre:mk as part of the MÓTUS Festival on 23 May 2026.

This programme is supported by The Leche Trust and Arts Council England.

What is Adjustments?

Adjustments is designed to nurture new choreographic voices.

Mentoring

Each of the six selected artists is paired with an established choreographer for one-to-one tailored guidance. Mentors are matched to artists based on style, interests and development needs.

Professional Development

Across early May, participants take part in four specialist sessions covering:

  • Fundraising

  • Tour booking and producing

  • Creative health & wellbeing

  • Environmental sustainability

These sessions are delivered by leading professionals and supported with digital resources.

Creative Space & Support

Artists receive studio space in Milton Keynes, alongside advice from the MÓTUS team on structuring work, navigating the sector and preparing for performance.

Sharing & Feedback

A mid-May scratch sharing offers a supportive space to test ideas and receive feedback from mentors, peers and the Artistic Director. This moment forms a valuable bridge between research and public presentation.

Festival Performance

The programme culminates in a public platform at the MÓTUS Festival on 23 May 2026, giving artists the opportunity to share their developing work with audiences and industry peers.

Who is it for?

Adjustments is open to early-career dance artists and choreographers who:

  • Are aged 21+

  • Are based in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire or nearby regions

  • Are within the first five years of their artistic practice

  • Are developing or refining a choreographic voice

We particularly welcome applications from artists from underrepresented backgrounds, those who have taken non-traditional routes into dance, and those returning to their practice after time away.

Each selected artist receives:

  • £500 scratch funding to support creation

  • £300 performance fee for taking part in the 23 May platform

  • High-quality documentation (photography)

  • Access to resources beyond the in-person programme
