Exploring the craftsmanship of dance making, planning and production

Founded in 1994 and led by Artistic Director Charlotte Vincent, Vincent Dance Theatre (VDT) produce powerful and engaging dance theatre work accompanied by extensive programmes of social engagement and professional development work.

Charlotte Vincent is considered ‘one of the UK’s leading female choreographer/directors’ and ‘one of the most important feminist artists working in Britain today’ (The Observer). VDT is an international ensemble of multi-tasking collaborators who devise interdisciplinary performance to challenge conventional values in dance and gender politics.

MÓTUS approached Charlotte Vincent, of Vincent Dance Theatre, to be part of ARTISTS INSIGHTS to explore the craftsmanship of dance making, planning and production with particular focus on process/research/form and impact within her work.

MÓTUS will be working with Vincent Dance Theatre to provide:

  • Access and private links to Shut Down to include access to the full length live stage capture and film installation which will be accessed/viewed via a screen.

  • Team analysis of Shut Down looking at context, crafting of scenes and images, insight into types of choreographic choice and intention, use of text and overall meaning and impact.

  • A study of Vincent Dance Theatre’s history with links and films to observe how the company has developed, been challenged and continued to make groundbreaking work.

  • Theory and methods of making Shut Down - MÓTUS will be working with VDT to make these accessible online.

  • There will also be an online interview with Charlotte Vincent via Facebook Live from 6pm on the 21st September 2020.
